I am interested in finding information about my great-grandfather, David Hirsch
(1870-1923), who was a composer, actor, and chorus conductor in the Romanian
and Chicago Yiddish Theater. He trained in cantorial schools and at the Lemberg
conservatory. Born in Russia; lived in Vienna and Bucharest. He worked with the
Romanian National Theater and conducted the orchestra and chorus for Zilberman
and Lateiner in Bucharest. Also conducted briefly for Goldfaden. Immigrated to
Chicago in 1903 and worked with Pichas Thomashefsky. I believe some of his music
can be found in the YIVO archives. I would appreciate any further information
on his work, and especially on how to access archives holding his musical
