Re: Musician union membership lists #yiddish

"Saralea" <saralea2@earthlink.net> asks:

I am looking for a violinist who would
have been on the east coast about 1900. Name is either Wolfe or Meier
( Meyer) Altman. Does anyone know if the musician's union has a
database of members
going back that far and if so, how to access it?

I strongly suspect that whatever database the American Federation of
Musicians has contains only current members -- and probably nothing from
the period before the database was set up (maybe 1980s?). There's no
benefit for them to include inactive members.

My search in Worldcat for directories >from that time revealed directories
for only the St. Louis chapter. I would search city directories.
