In researching the family of David ABELES and Eva KUSSY of Bohemia (Czechoslovakia) I have come across a number of Abeles family members who changed their surname to AREND, probably shortly after WWII. I understand that there are other (unrelated) Abeles families whose members have made the same change. It was probably done to sound less Jewish. Does anyone know why the name Arend was selected?
