I do not believe that these people came >from somewhere else as there are
none of them anywhere else, at least so far.
If one accepts that most Jewish families had to adopt "western" family names
at around the time of the early 18th century, then I have to believe that
these folks, apparently a JaKob Podwinecz, living around 1725 took a name
having to do with some geographic connection. Maybe he just walked by the
place and liked the name better than what was on the list.
The fact there are only Podwinetz near to where there is a place called
Podwinetz suggests that this is the case.
