As Celia and Lisa noted this traveling exhibit NEIGHBORS WHO DISAPPEARED is
making the rounds. It is a wonderful display created by school children under the guidance and support of the Jewish Museum in Prague and the NGO "The Forgotten Ones." A wealth of information about this is available at _http://www.zmizeli-sousede.cz/ajindex.html_ (http://www.zmizeli-sousede.cz/ajindex.html) , do follow the links to see the panels. It is traveling in two sizes large and mid-size, all content is the same. I am coordinating the visit of the mid-size display to Temple Reyim of Newton, MA this April to May 2007. We will be having a major opening around Yom HaShoah and plan to include our Czech Torah in our educational presentation. In addition, Helen Epstein, noted author of "Children of the Holocaust: Conversations with sons and daughters of survivors" and "Where She Came From: A Daughter's Search for her Mother's History" will be a guest speaker for two events in preparation for the exhibit. She will lead a discussion of the book "Where She Came From..." and she will also present a talk for families based on her father's story [available on amazon.com] "Swimming Against Stereotype: The Story Of A Twentieth Century Jewish Athlete " Specific dates and details will be forthcoming. We,Temple Reyim, are attempting to reach out to the community at large and encourage school groups, youth, church, synagogue and community groups to schedule visits. A web page is in development, in the interim feel free to write to me with questions. As an interesting footnote, one of the panels, on Sokolov, credits Leo Hoenig for inspiration. Leo has written up his extensive family tree twice [!] in great detail and it is available through the Family History Library. Leo and I appear to have potentially overlapping family trees and I'm in hot pursuit of linking his ASCHNER relative to my ASCHNER clan. It makes this exhibit all the more precious as Sokolov is Leo's ancestral 'hometown' formerly known as Falkenau.
