One of my ancestors lived in Bykhov (27 miles south of Mogilev) during the

name) once as Solomon and on another occasion as Slioma. Has anyone ever
seen
the name "Slioma?" Is it a Jewish name? The son's nationality, according to
ancient documents was Hebrew, so I believe it is a Jewish name.
I have come across it in a census >from Rezekne, Latvia (now!) it was noted
as follows:
"Son SHLIOME, 2 years old, illiterate"

I, too, have been wondering what kind of a name that was, - also another
name, SHNEYER!

In the 1874 Census I came across the name SHNEYER (a male as he is noted to
have started military service!)

I am very interested in ANY information anyone can offer on this. Thank you.
As you can all guess: SO AM I!

Thank you in advance.

Best regards
