JACOBS in new jersey #usa

Sunshine49 <shengirl@...>

I am trying to find anything about Anstes JACOBS of Newark, New
Jersey, my 3-great grandmother. Alternate spellings are Anistes or
[err.] Austes. On 14 August 1825, in Newark, she married John HINTON,
who was >from the Richmond Virginia area and was Methodist. They had
one daughter, Henrietta Jacobs HINTON, also born in New Jersey, 16
May 1826. At some point they moved to Richmond. Anstes died in May
1834 and is buried in Shockoe Cemetery, Richmond [her tombstone says
her names was Anistes; family records say Anstes]. Her daughter
Henrietta married John Wesley CARDWELL in Richmond 4 June 1846, at
Centenary Methodist Church. She died in 1911 in Richmond. I do not
know for sure Anstes was Jewish, but there were Jewish JACOBS in
Richmond, and many Richmond Jews intermarried with non-Jews. I have
been able to find nothing more about her New Jersey roots. Thanks,
