Family lore has a KRAUZE [KRAUSS / KRAUSE] ancestor as a soldier >from the
Austrian Empire [don't know town or province] fighting during the Napoleonic
Wars (probably abt 1812) ending up in Bialystok where the family remained
until coming to the U.S. in 1904. I have Bialystok records for the family
taking me back to only the mid 19th century, and am trying to link further
back to see if can "find" this soldier.

Any suggestions or information about Jews fighting during the Napoleonic
Wars would be appreciated. Family lore has it that he was a soldier in
Napoleon's army, but am wondering if, instead, he was a conscript in the
Austrian army fighting against Napoleon. I know there was fighting around
Bialystok in 1812 during Napoleon's Russian campaign and surmise that's
when, and where, he went >from soldier to Bialystoker.

Thanks!
