Bessarabia SIG #Bessarabia FW: [rom-sig] Bob Wascou #bessarabia
Dear Bessarabers, toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
With great sadness I want to let you know that Bob Wascou, a person who did a lot for all Bessarabian
Bob Wascow coordinated one of the most important projects for our region - Bessarabia Vital Records.
His team gave us an opportunity to find Birth, Marriage and Death records for our ancestors. I started
working for Bob more than 10 years ago, when the project was part of Romania SIG. In a short while
he gave me translate records >from my parent's town - Kaushany, where I found a birth record for my
great grandfather, and records for many other relatives. That project was an eye opener for me, and
for many other researchers.
Later, in 2009 in Philadelphia I met Bob in person. He helped me starting another project - Bessarabia
Revision List. In 2013 conference in Boston Bob Wascou participated in our Bessarabia SIG meeting,
where he presented Vital Records Project and that he needs more translators to finish that project and
work on other projects...
Our Bessarabia SIG will complete hard work at Bessarabia Vital Records project started by Bob Wascou,
our friend and teacher.
Our deep condolences to Bob's family.

Dear fellow Rom-SIGgers,
It is with heavy heart that I must tell you that our wonderful Research Coordinator, Bob Wascou, has
passed away. He was truly the very soul of the Rom-SIG for so many years. His superb managerial
skills, kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness and devotion to the SIG were beyond
compare. Those of us who have had the privilege of working with, and
knowing him, for so many years are deeply saddened, but determined to
keep the SIG running in a way that will honor Bob's memory. It will
take a little while till we pull matters together, but we hope that
you will all bear with us. We hope to set up a special fund for the
Rom-SIG with an eye to doing just that by allowing us to continue our research efforts.
We will let everyone know when that has been arranged with JewishGen.
There is a very beautiful tribute to Bob, placed on his Facebook site, by his son.
May his memory be a blessing for us all!
