Bessarabia SIG #Bessarabia Another discovery of Bessarabia records! #bessarabia

Yefim Kogan

Hi everybody,

I need to share with you a finding I made today.

I am working on my Warsaw presentation on National Archive of Republic of Moldova, and adding
some material to the power point. I also looked into the Moldovan archive website, and there was
not much info in it, until... I decided to do a Google search for that Archive in Russian, and that
brought me to my new "Wow"!!

It appears that archive had a list of All of their funds in Russian, and some of these funds have
Jewish records!! (I had some list >from other sources, but that is much better!). They also did not scan
their material, but have links to FHL records...

Here is a link to that site:
The link is so big, that you may not have the whole string, as it happens many times before.
I added **** in the beginning and at the end of the link. You can copy between these marks.

Finally, not all Jewish Funds are marked as Jewish... I looked at one of the Funds:

Fund 91 and inside "Delo" 262 that is a list of Kishinev Middle Class Jews >from 1910!!! It is not
Revision, but very similar list. Remember, the last Revision type list we have for Kishinev is >from
1859, and now 1910 - that will fill many gaps in our research.

I was really thrilled with these findings.

Now, we need to get easier access to FHL Microfilms, and also add more Translators/Transcribers
from Russian into the project.
We have now already translated more than 180 thousand records, and I thought that we will have
total of 250,000, but it may have much more records... Kishinev in 1910 had more than 50,000
Jews in town... probably 10% were Merchants, and the rest is Middle Class (Meshchane).

All the best,
Shabbat Shalom,
