Bessarabia SIG #Bessarabia Re: Soroki records #bessarabia
At the beginning of this month I wrote to you that we added 2123 records to the Miriam Weiner
Archival Database at Bessarabia SIG website. Thanks again to Miriam Weiner donation she made
to Bessarabia SIG.
I want to let you know more about records for Jews >from town of Soroki, a major place in
We have here for the first time Birth records >from Soroki and close by villages, colonies.
For the period >from 1879 to 1933 we got 380 birth records with 1520 total number of records,
including parents, towns where child was born and father was registered. In many cases these
towns are different. We have children born in Soroki, but parents registered as Middle Class in
many towns in Bessarabia, and Podolia gubernia, also in towns in Kiev, Volyn, Kovno and Vilna
gubernias. All this information is recorded in the records, and you can view them.
There are also records >from different towns, villages, colonies around Soroki:
Dombraveny colony - 23 records
Zguritsa colony - 10 records
Vertuzhany colony - 43 records
Markuleshty colony - 12 records
Lyublin colony - 23 records
Bricheva colony - 6 records
Floreshty - 2 records
Kremenchug - 8 records
Voronkovo - 2 records
Kotyuzheny - 1 record
Prytily - 1 record
Koshernitsa - 2 records
Pogoreny - 2 records
I want also to mention that these records were collected for specific research purpose and for now we
do not have all Soroki birth records sets, but we hope that we get all of them at some point. The
problem is that Soroki and Soroki uezd records are kept not in Kishinev in Moldova Archive, but in
Local Soroki ZAGS.
What is great about these new records - we know now the archive identification for these records, and
that will allow to point exactly to records sets and hopefully to get them or order them.
In addition to Birth records we also got some School records >from 1922, 1929, 1933, 1937-38,
Registries of Holdings of Jews, Voter's list in Soroki Synagogue 1938 with about 100 names listed,
a few other synagogue lists, Merchants of Soroki of 1907 and more.
