On 2008.04.28, Bob Kosovsky <kos@panix.com> asked:

I hope someone can explain [...]
For 12 markers, I have 12 "exact" matches.
For 25 markers, I have just 3 "exact" matches [...]
For 37 markers, no one is exact; instead it lists 4 people:
Genetic distance - 1: 2 people
Genetic distance - 2: 1 person
Genetic distance - 3: 1 person
the puzzling thing is that the person listed as genetic distance 3
is not a person who shows up on my 12 marker match, or anywhere else
of my Y-DNA matches.
Bob, the reason your 34/37 marker match does not show up on the list
of your 12-marker and 25-marker matches is because he is not a 12/12
marker match to you, nor is he a 24/25 or 25/25 marker match to you.
Family Tree DNA does not report anything less than a 12/12 marker
match or a 23/24 marker match unless they are in the same surname
project or geographic project as you (in which case they will report
an 11/12 marker match).

If you and your 34/37 marker match have both uploaded to Ysearch,
then you can compare his results to yours and see on which of the 12
markers he differs >from you; likewise for the 25 markers. You and
he had the same 12 markers tested (as well as same 25, 37, etc.).
