Early American SIG #USA FEDER and COHN, California, 1850s-present #usa

Dear all,

I am currently researching my great-uncle's family, who settled in
California in the 1850s and 1860s, and have so far done work in censuses and
online records, trying to get a basic outline of where his family was
located and trying to flesh out the bare bones of the pedigree chart he gave me.

The first arrival in the US was apparently his g-grandfather, Moses Mendel
FEDER, born around 1836-1838 in Prussia -- my uncle was told he arrived in
San Francisco in 1852. In 1860-1870, he lived in Colusa County, California,
before moving to San Francisco where he lived until the 1906 earthquake,
which sent him south to Los Angeles, where he died in 1915. Upon his death,
the LA Times ran an obituary featuring a photograph (>from a 1912 article
about his golden wedding anniversary) and a discussion of his role as a
leader in Jewish charities and synagogue affairs. In the 1860 census, he is
listed living with a Samuel FEDER, born about 1839, who I assume was a
brother, but I have been unable so far to find him in any subsequent
censuses. In the 1880 census, Moses' mother, Rosalie (b c1798) is living
with the family in San Francisco.

In 1862, Moses FEDER married Esther COHN, born about 1842-1846 in Prussia.
They had at least 7 children:

Henrietta, b 1866, m. Charles M. FRIEDBERG in 1885
Pauline, (ca1873-1877)
Louis, b 1873
Rachel (Ray), b 1875
Dolly/Dora, b c1875-1877
Gustave, 1877-1945
and my uncle's grandfather, Abraham S FEDER, b 1869.

In 1894, Abe FEDER married Annie COHN, born 1871, probably in Ventura
County, California. Her parents were Morris COHN (b c1844) and Emily (or
Amelia, b ca1841), who lived in Saticoy and Santa Paula during the period
1880-1910. I am still trying to piece this web of relationships together --
but Morris had a brother named Simon COHN who founded the town of New
Jerusalem (now El Rio) in Ventura County in 1875. He was married to a
Minnie COHN, apparently a sister of Esther COHN, the wife of Moses FEDER.

I'm posting this in hopes of finding anyone with connections to these
families -- or with other pioneer families in Colusa & Ventura Counties --

Thanks in advance! Rebecca Fenning Los Angeles, C <macguffin317@hotmail.com>
