French SIG #France Surnames: LEFEVRE, LEFEBVRE, LEFEBRE #france

Stephen A. Cohen

Through family stories I was told that my family originated >from
Inquisition Spain in the 1490's. A brother to my great grandfather,
told his grandson that the original family name in France or Germany
was LeFevre.

We don't know where they were living or when they moved into the
German Rhineland Palatine, but in 1808 my GGG grandfather, while
living in Weiler near Monzinchen, changed his name >from Sampson Marx
to Simon Eisenkramer (1762 to 6/17/1820). When the change was made
from LeFevre to Marx is unknown, but the family tree >from 1700 to
date is on the Family Tree for the Jewish People.

Does anyone else have any of these three phonetic variations of
LEFEVRE, LEFEBVRE, LEFEBRE in their family trees and >from which
French towns were those families from?

Best regards,
