MODERATOR NOTE: When you write a message for publication in this Forum
you must follow our format rules. If you don't know what these are please
request them by email to GerSig@aol.com with "Send List Rules" as your
subject line.

Among the list rules is the requirement that the family names (last names,
surnames) of your ancestors, their relatives or other people you are researching
must be typed in all capital letters. (Example: George WASHINGON >from Mt. Vernon,
Virginia)

This rule applies to your message subject line and to every other mention of
any research subject's family name within your message. First names, town names,
names of nations, states, regions, family pets, former girlfriends and everything
else in your message including your own last name when you sign your message
be typed in normal upper and lower case letters.

Your message subject line should be a concise but complete summary of the
content of your message - like a good newspaper headline.

There are reasons for these rules. Please follow our format guidelines. Messages
which do not comply will be rejected. John Paul Lowens, GerSig Moderator======>

Dear Genners,
Perhaps somepne can explain a mystery I am having. I have a phote album that
was created by my Grandfather. In it there is a picture of one of my
ggg-grandfather. His name was Emanuel PHILIPS 1796-1878 Rheinberg.

Under this caption it says Rabbi MENDELE. Supposedly he may have been a Rabbi.
Any ideas? Thanks
