notion that Jews might have been surnamed Bauer"
==Bauer was quite a common name among Jews in German-speaking Europe. Lars
Menk in his excellent "Dictionary of German Jewish surnames", recently published
by Avoteynu, lists something like 30 towns where Bauer families originated,
the earliest in 1591.
