Last week the Jewish Museum Munich opened its new exhibition "Places of Exile
03: Munich and Washington Heights". The third exhibition in the series
"Places of Exile" provides an insight into the New York neighbourhood of
Washington Heights, which during the 1930s became a center of German Jewish
Immigration.

Here, immigrants >from southern Germany, together with Rabbi Dr. Leo Baerwald,
last rabbi of Munich's main synagogue destroyed in 1938, founded congregation
"Beth Hillel".

The exhibition "Munich and Washington Heights" presents this New York
immigrant neighbourhood and traces the history of the congregation
Beth Hillel and its members.
