I am looking to track down any information about my gr-grandfather,
gr-grandmother and family in Germany. I have no idea if he was Jewish
or not, I do know he was German by birth. I believe she was Jewish but
have yet to find proof. =I *finally* tracked down his US Immigration
paperwork, so I have some data, but it is mostly handwritten and badly
scanned >from early in the 1900's.
his name: Gustav Edward Walter KOCH born: 23 April 1881, Wittenberge,
Germany, according to the immigration paperwork.
Gustav married Clara Hedwig Freida SCHULZ born: 03 Dec 1883 in either
Posen, Prussia, or Schwerin, Germany (immigration papers say Germany,
US Census says Posen, my grandmother said Poland). Somewhere in
Clara's family line is a Dumbrowski or Dombrowski and a Polish
connection--according to my grandmother.
I know Gustav and Clara married sometime in 1905, I believe late in
1905, somewhere in Germany.
They had two children, Hedwig Freida in 1906 in Cuxhaven, Germany and
Harry George (or Gustav) 22 Feb 1909 in Hamburg, Germany.
In December 1909, they left >from Hamburg, Germany to New York, US on
the President Grant ship, arriving 16 Dec 1909. The manifest says they
were being sponsored by Clara's uncle or father, Wilhelm SCHULZ, in
New York. However, I have no record for that connection and I have no
record of the family staying in New York after they arrived. All
Wilhelm Schulz connections I have tried to make have turned out not to
be a connection or a dead end.
I am hoping someone here has a connection or information about
Gustav's family, or Clara's family. Thank you,
