German SIG #Germany Meaning of Nothandler / Noethandler (o umlaut) - occupation #germany

Peter Dreifuss

Dear fellow Gersiggers,

Several of my ancestors >from Baden in the 18th and 19th centuries were
described as Noethandler / "Nothandler" (the o is written with
an umlaut).

My understanding of the term is somewhat vague, but generally one
reserved for the occupation of Jews who were peddlers or traders
of petty items.

Can anyone provide more clarity on this occupation perhaps with some
examples or with a reference?
