Ivano Frankivsk (Stanislawow) ShtetLinks Site
Due to great effort on the part of Susannah Juni, a new ShtetLinks site has been launched for the city now known as Ivano Frankivsk, formerly Stanislawow, Stanislau, or Stanisle. You can go there directly by clicking on: http://www.jewishgen.org/shtetlinks/juni/stanislawow or by going to the ShtetLinks Home Page at www.jewishgen.org/shtetlinks/ and clicking on Ukraine, and then Ivano Frankivsk. Stanislawow was a large city of more than 100,000 residents, including a thriving Jewish community of 25-30,000 people. At this time, the site is still a work in progress, but there are great maps of the area, and many wonderful photographs. We have over 100 researchers who have asked to have their surnames of interest posted on the researcher's page. Have a look! You never know-you may have ancestors who lived in Stanislawow or nearby environs, such as Mariampol, Jezupol, Knihinin and the Knihinin colonie, Mykietynce, Zagwozdz, Paniczna, Tumierz, Halicz, Pobierce, and many other shtetls. If you have a question regarding whether or not a shtetl is in the administrative district of Stanislawow, please contact Denise Azbill, at Famaz@prodigy.net. Exciting news for the near future! Susannah has traveled throughout the region, and we have a database of literally thousands of records of data, including photographs both old new, documenting Jewish life in Stanislawow (Ivano Frankivsk). We are currently working with a database specialist to enable you to view all of this data, including many more Photo Highlights, from the website. (The current release of the website contains only a smallsampling of photographs, as well as research sources, links, maps, etc.) Please check back later in the year! (Targeted for around July, 2001...) Some of the data was provided by other researchers, and if you have data you'd like to contribute, please contact me later this year, as there will eventually be a mechanism for people to donate more data to the project. Volunteers are needed to help submit and computerize data for the SIF website on ShtetLinks. If you can help, please send an email to Denise Azbill famaz@prodigy.net No special skills required. Many, many thanks are due Susannah. She has created a wonderful site, and we invite you all to visit. Sincerely, Denise Azbill
