Dear Genners,
There is a Sholem Aleichem story, Mottl Pesi the Chazan's Son, in
which it is mentioned that giving the groom a watch was a wide spread
custom.....usually it was given by the potential father in law.....the play
will be performed bilingually at the Folksbiene Theatre in NY and I'll give
the details privately......it's well worth seeing for those of us interested
in our ancestors' culture and mileu.....the story seems to take place about
