The reason names are spelled with an aleph instead of a hey is that they are based on Aramaic spelling.
My great grandmother Hinda SELKOWITZ (ZELKOWICZ) who was born in Klobuck, Poland and buried (1916) in the Washington Cemetery also has a final aleph at the end of her name on her gravestone. I spell mine with a hey.
