In response to questions about how to use the search engine for directories
at www.kalter.org/search.php, I have added a FAQ, which you can access from
the main page or directly >from www.kalter.org/searchfaq.html.
You can now also use the wildcard character ? in your searches. For
example, searching for "L??b" will match "Leib," "Lieb," "Loeb," etc. Using
this, you can circumvent some of the inaccuracies due to the OCR process and
find more of your relatives. If you are searching for a long name, you
might want to use several ?s. The best placement of ?s would be for
characters that are easily mistakeable, such as e, c, and o. Of course, if
you use too many ?s, you will receive many undesirable matches.
If you have other ideas of how to make this search engine more useful,
please tell me.
Thanks and best regards,
