JewishGen is pleased to announce a major update to JOWBR, JewishGen's
Online Worldwide Burial Registry, a searchable database accessible at There are now 689,125
burial records in 1,525 cemeteries and cemetery sections online. The
cemetery section list can be viewed at

JOWBR is totally dependent on donations of material >from individual
donors and other organizations who share data with us. Every one of
these donations is important to us, but I do want to point out a few
noteworthy efforts for this update:

-Bruno Segel, Rosanne Leeson, and others entered ~13,200 records >from
Botosani, Moldavia
-Terry Lasky has submitted over 16,000 records for Colorado cemeteries
-JGS of Toronto, Canada has added to this update 13 more cemeteries
and over 8,000 records, for a total of over 29,000 records, almost
all of which have been submitted by Carolynne Veffer on behalf of the
-Mathilde Tagger submitted data on six cemeteries in Egypt
-Jewish Cemetery Berg Altena in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles,
probably one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the "New World," has
been added, containing 1,217 burial records

Many more individuals and organizations have made important
contributions of data to JOWBR, too many for us to acknowledge here,
and we look forward to adding many tens of thousands records in every
quarterly update with your help. For information on how you can
submit records, see and
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Nolan Altman,
JOWBR technical coordinator, at, or me.

We are in need of Hebrew translators who can transcribe tombstone
transcriptions >from Hebrew to English. If you can help, please
contact Nolan Altman.

The JOWBR database would not be possible without the efforts of Nolan
Altman, Warren Blatt, Michael Tobias, and JewishGen.
