Gesher Galicia SIG #Galicia Two towns Mikolajow in Eastern Galicia #galicia
There are appears to be confusion about two towns in Eastern Galicia
both known in Polish as Mikolajow (hard "broken" Polish letter "l" with
the diacritic mark above the letter "o"), pronounced [mee koh wa yooff].
The first Mikolajow is located in the Zydaczow (Zhidachov) district,
Stanislawow (Ivano-Frankivsk) Province, about 5 miles >from the large
Jewish community of Rozdol (Rozdil) at 4931 2359. According to the
1921 census, out of 3,156 total residents, 498 were Jews (16%). The
town's current Ukrainian name is Mykolaiv.
The second Mikolajow is located in the Bobrka (Bibrka) district, Lwow
(Lviv) Province, 9.5 miles >from Bibrka at 4946 2121. According to the
1921 census, out of 958 residents, 315 were Jews (33%). The town's
current Ukrainian name is Nikolayev.
Both towns had sizeable Jewish populations, but were not recognized
till today as "Jewish communities" and were not included in the
