virtual shtetl adventure this Sunday: June 14, 2015 2:00 PM ">from Shtetl to City: Jewish Heritage Travel in Eastern Europe" Speaker: Ruth Ellen Gruber American Jewish University 5600 Mulholland Dr. Los Angeles, CA 90077 The award-winning American writer Ruth Ellen Gruber has chronicled contemporary Jewish developments in Europe for more than two decades. In this presentation she'll offer an illustrated virtual tour of far-flung synagogues, shtetls, Jewish cemeteries, and other Jewish heritage sites in a variety of countries. She describes personal experiences and discusses the many changes she has witnessed in more than 20 years of her exploration of Jewish heritage in the region known as Europe's Jewish heartland. Ruth Ellen Gruber is a journalist, author, editor and researcher. She coined the term "virtually Jewish" to describe the way the so-called "Jewish space" in Europe is often filled by non-Jews. She authored the National Geographic Jewish Heritage Travel: A Guide to Eastern Europe and is the coordinator of the web site www.jewish-heritage-europe.eu, an online resource for Jewish heritage issues in 48 European countries, sponsored by the Rothschild Foundation (Hanadiv) Europe.
