Gesher Galicia SIG #Galicia 1848 Cadastral Sketch of Solotwina in the Gesher Galicia Map Room #galicia

Just added to the Gesher Galicia Map Room: a rough but very valuable
cadastral field sketch of Solotwina (Solotvyn), >from 1848: http://maps.geshergalicia.org/cadastral/solotwyna-solotvyn-1848/ Because it is the first draft map made by the surveyor while walking and measuring the town, the scale is imperfect, but we were able to stretch and assemble all the sheets of the entire map with reasonable fit. As a plus for family researchers: the map is annotated with house numbers correlating to vital and other records, and key features of the Jewish community (synagogue, cemetery) and clearly marked. And unique to these early-stage sketches, the town center was sketched at double scale to capture detail in the dense market square and surrounding streets; we have squeezed the center section into the main map, and presented it as a standalone high-detail map as well: http://maps.geshergalicia.org/cadastral/solotwyna-solotvyn-1848-center/ Images for this map were provided by the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv (TsDIAL): http://www.archives.gov.ua/Eng/Archives/ca04.php The later stages and final map of Solotwina were lost to history; we are lucky this sketch survived. Please share these map links to help preserve the history of this town.
