Gesher Galicia SIG #Galicia The December issue of the "Galitzianer" #galicia

Gesher Galicia SIG

Gesher Galicia is pleased to announce the release of the December 2018
issue of our quarterly research journal, the "Galitzianer."

In this issue, we ponder a Galician murder mystery, meet the first woman
to graduate as a doctor >from Lwow University, learn how Gesher Galicia is
working to uncover the names of unknown Holocaust victims, and witness
how personal genealogical research can grow into something much bigger,
in this case, a book about Jews in the Galician oil industry. Through three
different articles, we also become well acquainted with the Galician town
of Nadworna (now, Nadvirna, Ukraine), >from its nineteenth-century
geography to its WWII atrocities to its modern-day contradictions. Finally,
we experience the struggles of two families during the Holocaust, with
one story being told through a series of archival postcards.

Here is the list of articles in this issue:

-- Research Corner: A Galician Murder Mystery and an
Update on Gesher Galicia's Research Projects by Tony Kahane
-- Lwow University Records by Andrew Zalewski
-- History through Genealogy by Valerie Schatzker
-- The Stanislawow Holocaust Project by Michal Majewski
-- In My Grandfather's Words by Christina Craig
-- Map Corner: Nadworna 1847 Field Sketch by Jay Osborn
-- Courage and Fortitude by Lily Winiger Bink
-- A Journey to Nadworna by Steven S. Turner
