While in Jerusalem last week I found copies of an interesting series of books by Rabbi Y Y Grunwald, who was for many years rabbi in Columbus Ohio, and a major writer on Hungarian Jewish religious history. (I found a good selection of these books at Lichtenstein & Holder---Kikar Shabat, at the place where Straus meets Meah SHearim and Malchei Yisrael) He wrote a biography of Maharam Shick, a history of religious conflicts in Hungary, a book about prominent Hungarian rabbis and books about several communities. (He also quotes a family history he wrote of the Rosenthal family of Budapest, but I have never seen a copy, perhaps it was privately published) I purchased one about Huncovce, Obuda, and Nove Mesto (Ir Chadash). The books were not cheap, or I would have acquired the whole set, but they were available. They are full of names, transcripts of old communal archives made before the first world war, and of old gravestones, family names and information, and are a treasure trove.
