There is a movie about Jewish lumberjacks called "Memoirs of a River
(The Raftsmen)". I assume you are referring to the same movie. The
story is about the Tiszaeszlar blood libel, a fictional version of an
event which is recounted in Raphael Patai's THE JEWS OF HUNGARY, pages
288, 349-53, and 541.
I don't own that book, so I don't have any more detail.
