My grandfather served in the Austro-Hungarian Army in World War I and I remember him telling me that he served time as a guard in a POW camp at MAUTHAUS. I presume that this is the same as Mauthausen camp >from WWII. He never told me its locaton, only the name Mauthaus. He also mentioned that he guarded Italian POWs and how they used to perform in the evenings for the other prisoners and the guards. I got very limited info about my grandfather >from the Austrian Kreigsarchiv, but nothing that corroborated this story.
