I need an opinion. In Subcarpathian Ruthenia, would Berko and Bernat be
derivations of the same name? The time period would be 1800s and early
1900s.

Moderator VK: According to the on-line list of Hungarian given names posted by George Tapolcsanyi, Berko is a nickname for Bernat, the Hungarian form of Bernard or Bernhard. Other nicknames are Berni and Berci.
