Dear H-sig naming experts,
I have a puzzle. My grandmother was always known as Catherine
(nicknamed Kitty). Yesterday I found her on the passenger ship manifest
in 1875 and her name was Gezella. I assume that the list was written by
a steamship employee and might have errors, but can anyone tell me if
there might be a connection between Gezella and Catherine? Yiddish,
perhaps?
