Hungary SIG #Hungary * Trick at FHC's search engine #hungary

Tom Venetianer <tom.vene@...>

Dear all,

Today I discovered a new feature of the FHC search engine.

Choosing the Place search feature

<http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=localitysearch&columns=*,0,0>

one gets two fields: Place and Part of (optional)

If one informs a place name (say Kassa) and fills in "Hungary" in the "part of" field one gets a certain number of returns. In this case: Kassa, Kassa-Hamor and Kassa-Ujfalu.

Now comes the trick: if you inform "Kosice" and "Slovakia" you will get a different set of returns. In this case Kosice only.

In other words, the same place produces two different sets of available information, some of which are duplicates; in this case Kassa and Kosice produce the same entries-links, but Kassa-Hamor and Kassa-Ujfalu are unique.

I don't know if this really is new to all members but I though that one can always learn new tricks >from old dogs :-))

Regards and chag Pessach sameach
Tom
