I've been reading Sam Schleman's responses regarding the "AHD,"
which I assume stands for All Hungary Database. I was hoping someone might
be able to help me locate information regarding our great-grandfather,
Refa'el Nossen-Nutte LATTERHAUS, and his father Avraham (Yitshak?) who
emigrated to Palestine >from Lisk, Hungary somewhere between 1880 and 1890.
The FEEFHS map of Northeastern Hungary shows Liszko on the River Bodrog
between Szanto, Keresztur, Szedenes, Tokay and Saros Patak:
Olaszliszka Zemplén/Tokaji járás Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Megye
Family lore says that Avraham was a Sanzer Hassid who had no specific
occupation, but "sat and studied Torah." We know his wife, Hannah and an
older son also resided in Jerusalem. I suspect they may have migrated with
the disciples of the Hatam Sofer and were members of the Ungarische Kollel
in Jerusalem. Our great-grandfather stated repeatedly that they were
descendants of a lesser known son of R' Elimelekh of Lizhensk.
I have found records for LATTERHAUS in the Polish Databases:
Avraham LAUTERHAUS & his wife, Beila PRECKER are listed as "Martyrs of
Dembitz" in the Debica Yizkor Book.
Jehudes LATTERHAUS, b. 1913 is listed in the Birth Records for Zablocie.
The Krakow Ghetto List shows-
LATERHAUS Charlotte 1911 10 / 133 / 39 & LATERHAUS Gusti 1917 10 / 133 /
There were also some LATTERHAUS in NYC :
