I just re-read, to my amusement, my posting on the 1821-28 census record fo=
r the Jewish population of Szabolcs County where I wrote about columns list=
ing the numbers of "chickens, pigs, etc" owned by each family. Obviously n=
o Jews owned any pigs! My reference was based on a casual translation I re=
ceived, and in checking a JewishGen infofile on this census I see the follo=
wing listed:


* Col. 10: Large domestic animals, number of oxen, cows, horses
* Col. 11: Small domestic animals, number of sheep, swine, goats

So while the census form was not created with Jewish dietary laws in mind I=
still felt I should clarify my statement to the group.
