Hungary SIG #Hungary H-SIG at the 2010 IAJGS Conference #hungary
If you haven't yet registered for the 30th annual International =
Conference on Jewish Genealogy Conference, you can still take advantage =
of the early registration rate until April 30. The Conference on Jewish =
Genealogy will be held July 11-16 in Los Angeles, California at the =
brand new L.A. LIVE conference center. =20
H-SIG has proposed to sponsor several sessions in addition to holding =
our annual business meeting and luncheon. Last year we sponsored two =
sessions that dealt with formerly Hungarian lands that are now in =
Slovakia. This time we plan to move across the border to offer programs =
on Transylvania and rural areas of northeastern Hungary. Here are a few =
of the sessions that will be on the program. Additional information =
will be announced as we confirm speakers and obtain Hungarian films for =
the ever-popular conference film festival:
--Genealogical Gems in Rural Hungary. Resources available to =
researchers in rural Hungary and how to find them.
--God-Seekers, Scholars, and Lumbermen Under the Carpathians. History =
of the Jewish community of Sziget (now Sighet, Romania) and surrounding =
communities and resources for research.
--Why My Austro-Hungarian Ancestors were Neither Austrian nor Hungarian. =
A look at the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy.
--Three Guides, Four Countries: A Child of Holocaust Survivor's Journey =
to her Ancestral Villages in Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia with a stop =
in Germany =20
Because the conference can provide only limited support to those who =
will be participating in the program, a number of the SIGs, including =
H-SIG, have helped to cover expenses for session and luncheon speakers. =
We are, once again, looking for your financial assistance to make it =
possible for speakers >from abroad to participate in conference =
activities that will be of interest to H-SIG supporters.
To help out, please go to the Hungarian SIG JewishGenerosity page at =
15 and make a donation to the H-SIG Speakers Bureau.
