I think that Ilan is correct; I noticed the same thing. Victorian era or no, young
women working as maids in urban households or as factory workers (of whatever
religion) bore many, many illegitimate children in Budapest. No doubt the same was
true in Paris, London, Berlin, Vienna, etc. Hungarian records do not note the
father's name unless it was a legitimate birth.
