Hungary SIG #Hungary 1857 Hungarian Census #hungary
Shalom,
I'm happy to announce that our almost year long project is near its end. The goal was to digitize and transcribe voluminous 1857 Census from Abauj Torna county. Thanks to your contributions we were able to collect almost 12000 names, very often with full birth dates, occupations, family relations and other details. For more information on what is covered, please go to http://hsig.absolon.eu and click on "1857 Hungarian Census - Abauj-Torna". The tracking table shows now 98% progress and we estimate the rest could be done within next two-three weeks, so hopefully the whole work will be published on JewishGen Hungary Database before IAJGS. This all couldn't be achieved without hard work of transcribers and validators, mainly Eric M. Bloch and Peter G. Bakos. Thanks guys! In that project we collected info >from enumeration sheets >from 234 towns and villages and 7 districts of city of Kosice/Kassa. In addition, we found online and transcribed 6 towns >from Zemplen county, which will be also uploaded together with Abauj-Torna. Since the 1857 Census contains lots of valuable information, we decided to continue with another county, Saros megye. On the page mentioned above there is already section with progress tracking for Saros (highlighted yellow). As the acquisition of the records isn't free, I would like to ask you to consider a donation to this project here: https://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/v_projectslist.asp?project_cat=15 (please select Slovak Archives Records Project for your contributions). If you have any questions, feel free to contact me off-list. Kind regards, Peter Absolon Kosice, Slovakia
