I wonder if anyone can advise me how to find out more about my ancestors
Samuel Solomon, born about 1770, i dont know where, and Betsy Moses, i dont
know where or when. The information i have is that they married in London:
(Hebrew: Shemayab, son of Moshe Fidshil Faya)
(Hebrew: Beyla, daughter of Shalom Milik Mal)
on the 30th October 1793, at the Great Synagogue, London
The officiant was Moses Myers, Rabbi of the New Synagogue
and acting Chief Rabbi at the time. The Witnesses were: ltzik, Reader and
Itzik. Second Reader (sic).
Samuel was trading in Spitalsfield, London, as a pencil maker, two of his
sons were sent to NSW in 1817, and he followed them out. This information
regarding the marriage came >from the Synagogue, via another family member. I
am a novice in this area, and am trying to find out about these ancestors.
If he was married in the New Synagogue at that time, would they be SEphardic
or Ashkenazi? I understand Jewish people in London at this time were often
from Holland, Spain or Portugal, where would this family have come >from andhow do i trace their birth?
any advice welcome
