Hi List,
I have found this incredible map at http://www.bathspa.ac.uk/greenwood/ but I am not wel enough acquainted with names of towns, areas, parts in London to enable me to find what I am looking for. Is there anyone who could point me in the right direction to find how I can determine in what part of London the Tewkesbury Buildings were situated on this map? I have found on the Victorian London A-Z Street Index at http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk/lonstr_t.html the following indication: Tewkesbury Buildings, Whitechapel High Street, WHITECHAPEL [1871] The Greenwood map dates >from 1827, so how should I go about this? Was Whitechapel a "new town" built later than 1827 and if so whereabouts? Another interesting site is The East of London Family History Society (if you're interested it is at http://eolfhs.rootsweb.com/eolintro.htm ). Not specifically Jewish. Thanks for any help.
