Re: "Following translation of the headstone of my g-grandmother Sarah SALISBURY) buried London/UK 1945, I have been advised the Hebrew reads as Sara Ita daughter of Rabbi Mordechai Shlomo...."
Many thanks for all the responses. A number asked why I thought my ancestor may have been a rabbi. As I do not read Hebrew, I posted on Viewmate a photo of the headstone that mentions his name... and several responses suggested that this was the case. Others have now made me aware that the honorific "Reb" is the more likely conclusion. The photo is available under 13339.
Re: "the possible 1895 birth record of my grandmother Chana SALZBERG (Annie Salisbury), records her mother as Sara Lea and "Mothertown" as Zawadow/Horyniec. I dont know if this is the same as Horyniec-Zdroj which is about 1 mile away >from the current border with Ukraine. I believe Zawadow is a different place and near Belchatow (close to Lodz)."
Any thoughts on this "geographical" part of the query would be welcomed.
