Here's a wee puzzle >from Scotland:
Mary Kathleen Cohen was born in Edinburgh in October 1911. Her birth
certificate states her parents were Mark Cohen (who had died less than
3 weeks before) and Ellen nee O'Brien, who had been married in Leeds
In 1912, the widow Ellen Cohen married William Lindsay in Glasgow.
In 1932, Mary Kathleen Cohen, aged 20, married Samuel Bowers in
Glasgow. This time, she stated that her mother was Amelia Cohen or
Torff, 'wife of Samuel Torff', and no father is listed. Why would she
deny her late father (could be any reason)? Perhaps Amelia Cohen was
an adoptive mother?
Does this mean anything to anyone out there?
