Thanks. I learned a lesson you probably hadn't intended. I thought that
Guttentag was simply a translation of YomTov--it seemed so obvious.
I'll be more careful now to check surnames against Stettelfinder and not
always assume the obvious.
Incidentally, in case anyone is looking, there was a large Guttentag family
in Gateshead and Newcastle in the UK, two towns facing each other across the
