As I recall, it was the shooting death in Paris of a German diplomat (?) by a
student Herschel Grynszpan (sp?) that was turned into the "reason" for the
German pogrom on Krystallnacht, Nov 9, 1938. A look at French and German
records (and, of course, the news was world-wide at the time) may bring some
interesting connections.
