JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Profession in Ukraine: Vinokur #general
David Goldman <davic@...>
I just remembered that there was a family tradition about my
great-grandfather Elyokum Groberman having worked as a Vinokur in his home
area of Nova Ushitza/Kaminetz Podolsk. In Canada he made his own wine, so I
assume that as a Vinokur he was a winemaker or producer of other alcoholic
beverages.
Does anyone have any insights into this term? I have heard that the
Kaminetz Podolsk area was a wine-producing or grape-growing area. Is that
possible?
PS: The Belarus SIG digest is extremely helpful. Is there a comparable one
in the works for Ukraine?
Thanks.
