My grandparents were settled by "the Society," as they called it, in
Franklin Park, New Jersey along with two other families. This occurred in
1907 or 1908. I have tried to find out under exactly whose auspices this
occurred and have not been able to. I assume that the "Society" meant the
Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS).
Is it true that records of such an event no longer exist? I was told there
was a fire in the main office of that organization and there is no
available means of verifying what occurred.
