Would one of our French colleagues kindly conduct a telephone book search for
I would like to know if there are any families by the name of BEFELER listed
in Paris or nearby. If so, would you please e-mail me the addresses and
In searching for BEFELER relatives and their history in World War II, I have
so far determined which dates and on which transports the family members were
transported >from Paris. Auschwitz was the destination. I have had
confirmation >from the Paris agency Memorial Du Martyr Juif Inconnu that Berko,
the father, and Mayer, the younger son died later that year. I can only guess
that the mother, Alta, and the 10 year old daughter, Ewa, did not survive, but
I am still attempting to document their fate.
Now comes the startling news via a cousin in Costa Rica that he was told by a
business acquaintance of the existence in Paris of a Berel (aka Berko) BEFELER
. It is entirely possible that Yankiel BEFELER, the older son, survived,
returned to Paris, married and had a son named for his father.
If this is true, I would very much like to be in touch with this cousin. He
may not know of an extensive and wonderful family with branches in the US,
Costa Rica, Mexico and Israel.
Sincere thanks in advance for your help. Mila Begun in NYC, NY USA
