JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: pre-1922 citizenship of women #general

Thanks to all who answered my question regarding women who received
citizenship through their husbands prior to 1922. Two points can be made.
One, that it was not really necessary to be a citizen before Social
Security, before passports were required, or before women had the right to
vote. And two, that if a woman did receive citizenship through her husband
or father, and then later needed to prove her citizenship to obtain a
passport, etc., she had to then go to the trouble of proving that she was
indeed related to her husband or father and had become a citizen through
them. Quite a tsimmes!
