JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: Reuben vs. Zev Volev #general

On a relative's death certificate, the father is listed as Reuben.
However, the gravestone is inscribed as "Zev Volev" (in Hebrew).
Does anyone see a connection?
thank you

Zev Volev appears to be a Yiddish spelling for Zev Wolf. These two names
frequently go together because Ze'ev is Hebrew for wolf.

However, they don't normally go with Reuben (Jacob's eldest son) but with
Benjamin (Jacob's youngest son). "Binyamin Ze'ev" is a common combination
because the biblical text juxtaposes Binyamin with Ze'ev in the phrase
<Binyamin ze'ev yitraf> -- "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf" (Genesis 49:27)
